Hours: Coaches hours include but are not limited to weekdays, weekends, and evenings year-round. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching sport with progressively increased responsibly.
  • Ability to maintain rapport with students, parents, teachers and administration.
  • Knowledge of current best practices and methods of teaching the skills involved in sport.
  • Successful completion of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Coaches Advancement Program or ability to complete successfully within first 30 days of employment.
  • Training and up-to-date knowledge in first aid, CPR, Concussion, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and universal precautions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with athletes, parents, staff, Athletic Director and administrators in a supportive, positive and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and stewardship.
  • Shall serve as a positive role model/mentor for athletes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other head coaches and respective programs to foster a positive atmosphere.
  • Design scope and sequence for dive, defining skill outcomes to be achieved at each level.
  • Supervise establishment of team’s in dive, including team rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a complete inventory of equipment and uniforms, completing athletic department standardized forms.
  • Proper notification to prospective athletes prior to the start of your season, promoting your program.
  • Adhere to the up-to-date rules and regulations for cheer as set forth in the current handbook established by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and the Anchor Bay School District Guidelines.
  • Assist with the proper enforcement of the Anchor Bay School District’s athletic code of conduct, student code of conduct and Board of Education Policy to include administrative regulations.
  • Establish daily lesson plans to insure the development of desired skills and knowledge consistent with the established scope and sequence of the sport.
  • Work with and monitor the responsibilities of assistant coaches.
  • Develop a program of support in conjunction with the Athletic Director in cooperation with parents, school faculty, and sports boosters, meeting regularly and maintaining positive communication channels.
  • Maintain accurate team statistics and provide statistics to the school, local media, students and parents on request.
  • Attend Michigan High School Athletic Association and Macomb Area Conference meetings, pertaining to your sport.
  • Keep accurate records on daily attendance of athletes.
  • Keep accurate records of injuries.
  • Maintain up to date first aid knowledge pertaining to best practices in athletics.
  • Attend and participate in pep rallies, homecoming, and other athletic spirit events.
  • Provide positive publicity for the program, including press releases and public presentations.
  • Supervise student athletes prior to, during, and following practice and games, enforcing the highest standards of conduct among players and coaches.
  • Maintain order in the coaches’ office, equipment room, storage sheds, and other areas.
  • Assign and coordinate scouting of future opponents as determined by Athletic Director.
  • As a representative of Anchor Bay athletics, maintain the high standards expected in all forums and situations.
  • Complete other athletic duties, related to dive, as assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Personal computer skills necessary. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required talk or hear and sometimes traverse and sit. In case of emergency must be able to traverse about school campus and lead students to safety.    

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/laptop carts.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
