On call substitute to assist the classroom teacher in providing a stimulating and enriching environment for toddlers adn/or preschool age children following the Anchor Bay Preschool Core Curriculum by using the High/Scope Educational Approach to learning. Abide by the Revised Quality Standards for Infant & Toddlers and Pre-Kindergarten.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTITES

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Engage all students at their own level in the Active Learning process
  • Encourage an Active Learning Environment appropriate for the developmental level of the students
  • Provide positive Adult-Child Interactions at all times
  • Maintain a pleasant classroom atmosphere
  • Demonstrate Positive Classroom Management
  • Maintain classroom and materials in a clean & safe manner
  • Assist with the overall appearance and condition of the Early Childhood center
  • Report broken or damaged items to the office
  • Assist teacher in assessing classroom environment using PQA as requested
  • Assist with classroom set-up and preparation
  • Greet children and engage in conversations at the beginning of & throughout each class
  • Complete necessary prep work for projects and activities
  • Assist & supervise children to & from the restrooms, including assisting with bathroom accidents, diaper changing          and toilet training.
  • Conduct small group activities according to teacher directions
  • Maintain classroom toys in a clean and orderly fashion including sanitizing before returning to storage
  • Put chairs on top of tables at the end of the day
  • Prepare children’s cubbies for going home notes, papers, projects, etc.
  • Prepare snack & snack menu
  • Assist teacher in any other duties or responsibilities necessary to operate a successful classroom

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Personal computer skills necessary. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required talk or hear and sometimes traverse and sit. In case of emergency must be able to traverse about school campus and lead students to safety.    

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/laptop carts.  The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
