Qualifications:  

  • Must be fully licensed (CCC-SLP) by the American Speech – Language Hearing Association (ASHA); 
  • Act as a positive role model and representative of Anchor Bay School District while also developing good rapport with students, parents, and teachers; 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

  • Regular and reliable in person attendance is an essential job function.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide best practice strategies in instruction of students in the area of speech and    language; 
  • Ability to sustain a positive approach in the skill development of students; 
  • Knowledge and ability to successfully perform the following aspects of the speech-language position:

        a) Coordinate speech and language services for individuals to meet specific objectives 

        b) Maintain records and ensure student confidentiality 

        c) Perform screening, assess, diagnose and advise teachers of student needs and abilities 

        d) Manage and conduct student speech-language therapy 

        e) Ability to manage facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology necessary 

            to the delivery of services 

        f)Adhere to all district policies and regulations as well as all local, state and federal regulations 

  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with parents, teachers, building staff and administration; 
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Student Services and building administration to assist and complete other duties, related to the student program, as assigned by Administration. 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts; ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Personal computer skills necessary. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The position frequently requires non-stop typing on the computer. The position requires the individual to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and to interact with the public and other workers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Some extended hours are frequently required of the employee.
